Walking holidays in South Africa
South Africa is easily one of the most celebrated wildlife-watching destinations in the world. But there’s much more to this idyllic place than just big game safaris; mostly historic cities, striking mountain scenery, coastal hikes, and plentiful wine tasting experiences.
Wild adventures
Our South Africa walking holidays include spending time at Table Mountain National Park and taking a tough-but-rewarding hike to the 3,563 ft summit of the park’s namesake mountain. Or, if you prefer, hop in a cable car for incredible views over Cape Town. Whilst in the intriguing capital, you can also enjoy a guided walking tour, learn about African flora at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and take a trip to Robben Island - the penal colony where Nelson Mandela was once imprisoned.
Further thrills include marvelling at where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet with walks along the Cape of Good Hope and getting up-close with African penguins at Boulders Beach. On a safari in Kariega Game Reserve, search for The Big Five – herds of buffalo, families of elephant, solitary rhinos, elusive leopard, and the mighty African lion. And when you’re not busy with one-of-a-kind wildlife experiences, a spot of wine tasting during a visit to the aptly named Cape Winelands is always a good idea. Highlights include the French-influenced town of Franschoek and walks in the Cogmanskloof Mountains along the scenery-drenched Aasvöelkrans trail.
